Candler, NC

Candler is a small bedroom community just west of Asheville at Exit 44 on Interstate 40. It is mostly residential with 3 larger grocery stores, several banks and pharmacies and numerous restaurants.  There is a satellite campus of Asheville-Buncombe Technical College. The largest recent residential development is Biltmore Lake which surrounds the small Enka Lake. Much of rural Candler is out Hwy. 151 and backs up to Pisgah National Forest. Hwy 151 leads to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are 240 homes on the market at this time between the prices of $1,690,000 and $89,900. The most common house price is from $175,000 to $350,000. Candler extends to the Haywood County line and has two exits on I-40.

Black Mountain, NC

Black Mountain is a small town 12 to 15 miles, depending on where you start and stop, to the east of Asheville, NC. It can be reached by I-40 or Hwy 70.  It is a town of antique shops, craft stores, and attractions for tourists. The population is approximately 8000. It is the home of Billy Graham; Montreat College, a private Christian college with approximately 1100 students; and a few bears who seem to enjoy the ambiance of this small mountain town. There are also several religious conference centers in the area.

Lake Tomahawk is a small lake with a walking trail around it, playground and picnic area. At the current time there are 202 homes for sale in Black Mountain ranging from $67,900 to $6,892,000 – something for everyone.  Most homes are between $150,000 to $500,000. There are many older traditional homes and a few new developments. The public golf course is open year around for your pleasure.
